Smith Pipeline, Inc. traces its roots back to 1984, when owner Rickey Smith embarked on a “pipe dream” with a simple goal: to work hard and create a reliable livelihood. His journey involved learning from friends, family, and mentors as he toiled in the trenches. Subcontracting with local successful companies honed his expertise in the field. Rickey’s dedication extended to working tirelessly for days and being on call during many nights, all to deliver quality service to customers and vendors.
Kimberly, one of Rickey’s daughters, grew up immersed in the business and developed a keen interest in understanding the multifaceted world of pipeline work. After graduating from Georgia Tech in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Material Science and Engineering, she ventured into other fields but found herself still intrigued with the pipeline business prompting her return to SPI and the family business. Armed with her Utility Contractor’s license, Kimberly elevated SPI by focusing on waterline projects and maintaining consistent partnerships with local municipalities. She dedicated herself to mastering every aspect of the business, from accounting to the intricacies of water, storm, and sewer infrastructure. Kimberly wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty alongside other employees, ensuring a deep understanding of what it takes for the company to thrive.
In 2012, Rickey semi-retired, and Kimberly seized the opportunity to re-establish SPI. As a Woman-Owned Small Business, she brought a fresh perspective to the industry. Despite facing twists and turns as one of the few women in this field, Smith Pipeline, Inc. has flourished. With over a million linear feet of pipeline expertise, SPI proudly provides solutions to municipalities in Georgia and serves private and commercial clients. We are proud to offer many specialty services now as well. SPI eagerly anticipates a challenging task while delivering our quality services for years to come.
